Originally, the punishment for committing a crime comes by a conscious nature and as a result of peer pressure and the public violation of social norms. Stealing resulted in the criminal working off the debt and hopefully learning a hard lesson. Assault on someone got the “eye for an eye” treatment, and murder ended in the swift murder of the murderer. These were natural deterrence’s to crime.
Today, criminal activity warrant jail and prison sentences that over-punish the criminal and have become more of a business for graduates of legal fields. The court system is clearly biased as to what punishment fits what crime for people of a certain economic class and racial background. Furthermore, the threat of prison time has become the general bases for over-policing.
Not only does society live in a police state under the constant threat of the police pulling them over and any violation of menial laws and citations, but are subject to the psychological obsession with the punishment of human beings by locking them behind bars to live extended periods of time under subhuman conditions. Once incarcerated, prisoners of the states are not taught the hard lessons of life, but are treated like animals by guards trained to strip them of their humanity.
This is not normal. This is socio-pathological by nature. It reflects a culture of people who take joy in the brutality of other humans. It reflects a society unaware of the natural laws of mental rehabilitation, old-fashion mercy and honest judgment. It shows how far from nature humanity has travelled and into a world of cruelty, a lack of compassion, and injustice.
When the solution to even minor acts of lawlessness becomes prison time; and prisons have become a lucrative form of investment, and no returning criminal can successfully re-enter society like a normal human being, then incarceration has become a twisted form of pleasure for people who value money and power over human life.
